Safety, Health, Wellbeing, and Wellness
The day was centred on promoting children’s safety, health, and well-being. I completed daily health checks, supported handwashing, guided the children during meal times and just basically supervising them. I also began to see how emotional well-being was developed by calm routines, responsive interactions and emotional coaching. I began to develop a sense of responsibility for safeguarding children. The following practices and procedures I have developed for the safety, health, well-being, and overall wellness of the children in my care are explained on this page.

Ensuring Children's Safety
The issue of child safety is my second priority in my placement because I will act within the National Quality Standard (NQS) as well as the policies of a particular service dealing with child protection. This is my daily routine in dealing with safety:
Monitoring and Consciousness: I ensure that I am most of the time physically monitoring the children particularly during playtime or transition. I always take children in my sight whenever we are outdoors playing or in inside activities, and as well, I am nearby so that in case of an emergency, I can quickly attend to the kids. I am also conscious of the movements and interaction of the children in order to avoid accidents (Department of Education, 2022).
Risk Assessment: I perform a risk assessment prior to setting up any of the activities and play areas and make them safe.As an example, during the installation of outdoor play equipment, I ensure that the place is hazard-free by inspecting the area to look at potential hazards, e.g., sharp items, loose or unsturdy ground, and leaving the area safe so that children can explore without having to be cautioned all the time (Department of Education, 2022).

Health and Hygiene Practices
Handwashing Protocols: I make sure that every child washes her hands before meal times, going the toilet and using the common toys. I monitor young children to ensure that they wash their hands using soap in warm water with at least 20 seconds. I also demonstrate how to wash hands to the children to make them adopt good hygiene.
Cleaning of Surfaces and Toys: I wipe down and sanitize surfaces and toys children have touched when they have finished the activity. It is particularly crucial when the children eat or when involved in playing with materials that have high potential of transmitting the germs. I are using non-toxic cleaning supplies and childsafe ones and make sure that no dirt, harmful products are contained in the areas of play.

Supporting Emotional Wellbeing
Establishes Positive Relationship With Children: To have a strong relationship with the children based on trust, I establish very warm, friendly and receptive relationships with the children. When interacting with the children, I am always smiling at them, speaking in positive tone and giving them positive motivation. I listen to them and make them feel I understand their emotions.
Promoting Emotional Expression: I will invite children to share their feelings and emotions, any words or body manifestations and also through creative actions such as drawing. I inform them that it is normal to feel unhappy, angry, or frustrated and give them suggestions on how they should appropriately show these feelings. I tend to demonstrate using emotionally charged language by use of statements such as: I see you are angry.Don t feel bad. Breathe a little with me."
